Sacramento County deputies are examining a shooting incident that took place on April 18 2026 at Howe Community Park just as authorities were shutting down an unauthorized event of multiple hundreds of people.
Before the Gunfire
Deputies initially responded to the park on Howe Avenue at approximately half past six in the evening after being notified of persons possibly in possession of concealed weapons. Soon after, a follow-up call was made about a potential altercation occurring inside the park.
An overhead unit conducted an aerial sweep but was unable to locate the reported altercation. Nevertheless, deputies found that a crowd of several hundred had assembled at the park without any permit or approval.
The Shooting Itself
Law enforcement personnel worked to disperse the crowd by setting up around the park's perimeter and announcing over their public address systems telling the crowd to disperse at once. Nearly 15 minutes were spent for individuals to vacate.
As the crowd was being cleared that between 20 and 25 rounds cut through the air. The barrage of gunfire sparked chaos as hundreds ran. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies immediately began finding those who had been shot.
Four Victims Hospitalized
In total, four gunshot victims were found to have been shot. All click here four — consisting of one woman and three men all believed to be in their early to late twenties — were transported to local Sacramento hospitals. Doctors and nurses indicated that two of the four had injuries classified as immediate, one sustained moderate wounds, and one sustained minor gunshot wounds. Thankfully, no fatalities were reported and all four were stable.
Sacramento fire crews arrived on scene and helped care for those with gunshot wounds before they were taken to the hospital.
Physical Evidence
The bulk of the shooting was determined to have unfolded on the Cottage Way corridor close to the local Home Depot situated at the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. Crime scene investigators located more spent casings scattered along Cottage Way. Bullet damage were identified in the wrought iron fence alongside the Home Depot. The physical evidence suggested that a shooter had been firing southward from the Cottage Way area targeting the Home Depot. The Home Depot was temporarily locked down while law enforcement worked the area. CSI units alongside detectives worked tirelessly late into the evening.
Suspect Information
Details gathered via scanner audio indicated that a Kia vehicle had been detained in Solano County California. Four individuals were in the vehicle at the time of the stop. Sheriff's units were dispatched to Solano County to collect the individuals for processing in Sacramento County. Video reviewed at the scene made clear that two individuals had fired weapons.
